ALL OUR EVENTS ARE USAT SANCTIONED - sanctioning is pending...

Rules:
All established USA Triathlon rules will be in effect including but not limited to the following:

  • For each race, athletes' age groups are determined by their age on December 31st of that year.  This rule is so that you don't change age groups in the middle of the year.
  • Helmets are mandatory while riding the bike (BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER the race).  Helmet must be buckled or strapped on.  This is a DISQUALIFICATION penalty.
  • Headphones are not allowed at any time.
  • Swim caps will be provided and required. 
  • DO NOT THROW YOUR SWIM CAP ON THE BEACH!  Leaving swim caps, hammer gel wrappers, water bottles, or anything else on the course will result in a penalty.
  • Drafting on the bike is strictly prohibited.  You must stay 3 bike lengths away from the bike in front of you.  You are allowed 15 seconds to execute a pass.
  • Pass only on the left while on the bike.
  • No blocking - Stay to the right except when passing.
  • No riding on the transition area.
  • No outside assistance allowed in the transition area or anytime during the race.
  • Handlebar ends must be plugged to lessen the chance of injury.  This is a DISQUALIFICATION penalty.  
  • If USAT member, you must show your current USAT card to pick-up packet otherwise you have to pay additional $10 cash or check at packet-pick up.

Packet Pick-Up Rules:
USAT has established registration procedures and they will be strictly enforced at Packet Pick-Up:

  • All participants will be required to bring picture ID to pick up packet and all packets need to be picked up in person.
  • All USAT members will be required to show their current USAT membership card to pick up their packet. If you forget your card you will need to pay the daily membership fee before picking up your packet. If you lost your card, you may print it from USAT's website at www.usatriathlon.org.
  • All USAT non-members must fill out the USAT one day waiver and pay the $10 one day fee at packet pickup. If interested in becoming a USAT member for $39 annually please go to www.usatriathlon.org or call 719.597.9090.

 

WEATHER POLICY
In the event of inclement weather the following procedures will be followed:

1. The whole event will be delayed 45 minutes in hopes the inclement weather will pass.

2. If inclement weather does not pass in 45 minutes, the swim will be cancelled and decission will be made on the bike and run portions of the race as soon as possible.  No refunds will be issued if the event is cancelled due to inclement weather.

3. If the whole event is cancelled due to inclement weather prior to event weekend, a 50% credit will be issued for all registered participants into the 2011 event. No refunds will be issued if the whole event is cancelled due to inclement weather.

 

WETSUIT RULES:  USATriathlon. Those guidelines state:

  • USAT rules state that competitors may wear wetsuits if the water temperature is 78 degrees or lower.
  • USAT rules also state that if the water temperature is between 78.1 - 83.9 degrees, competitors may wear wetsuits but will not be eligible for awards.
  • If the water temperature is 84 degrees or above, participants may not wear wetsuits.

For Savannah sprint triathlon and duathlon Series scoring purposes:

  • If the water temperature is 78 degrees or lower everyone will receive series scoring points.
  • If the water temperature is between 78.1 - 83.9 degrees and you elect to wear a wetsuit, you will officially receive "0" points for that event. The event will count towards the minimum number of required events to become eligible for awards.
  • If the water temperature is 84 degrees or higher, no one may wear wetsuits and everyone will receive series scoring points.

 

AWARDS :

The top three males and females will receive overall awards. Top 3 Male Master (over 40) and top 3 Female Master (over 40) receive overall awards. The top 3 in USA Triathlon age-group categories will receive awards (no duplication). Top 3 in Novice Men and Novice Women Category receive overall awards.

USAT Wetsuit rules will be in effect.

You must be present for awards, awards will not be mailed.

 

T-SHIRTS:

Specially designed t-shirts will be given to competitors who sign up 3 weeks prior. We will do our best to provide t-shirts to everyone who signs up, but if you sign up in the last 3 weeks we won't be able to guarantee a t-shirt.

 

Entry limits:

Entries are limited to the first 250 entrants per event in 2010

 

Rain/Weather dates:

There are no make-up dates. We will only cancel an event if absolutely necessary for the safety of participants.

 

Refunds/Transfers:

50% of your entry fee will be refunded up to 30 days prior to the event. No refunds will be issued for any reason after 30days. Event entries are not transferable between persons, events or years. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made to this policy. By registering for this event you agree to these refund terms. Most Commonly Violated Rules and their Penalties    

 

1. Helmets:

  • Only helmets approved by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) may
  • be used in USAT sanctioned events. Helmets must be worn at all times while on your
  • bike. This means before, during, and after the event.

Penalty: Disqualification

2. Chin Straps:

  • Chin straps must be buckled at all times when on a bicycle. DO NOT unbuckle your chin
  • strap unless you are off your bicycle.

Penalty: Disqualification on the course; Variable time penality in transition area only.

3. Outside Assistance:

  • No assistance other than that offered by race and medical officials may be used.
  • Triathlons and duathlons are individual tests of fitness.

4. Transition Area:

  • All equipment must be placed in the properly designated and individually assigned bike corral. The wheel of the bicycle must be down on the side of the assigned space. All participants must return their bicycles to an upright position in their designated bicycle corral. No person shall interfere with another participant‚Äö?Ñ????ë?¬•s equipment or impede the progress of another participant. All bar ends must be solidly plugged. No participant shall bring ANY glass containers into the transition area.

5. Drafting:

  • Drafting--keep at least three bike lengths of clear space between you and the cyclist in front. If you move into the zone, you must pass within 15 seconds.
  • Position--keep to the right hand side of the lane of travel unless passing.
  • Blocking--riding on the left side of the lane without passing anyone and interfering with other cyclists attempting to pass.
  • Overtaken--once passed, you must immediately exit the draft zone from the rear, before attempting to pass again.

6. Course:

  • All competitors are required to follow the prescribed course and to stay within all coned lanes. Cutting the course is an obvious violation and going outside the course is a safety issue. Cyclists shall not cross a solid yellow center line for ANY reason. Cyclists must obey all applicable traffic laws at all times.

7. Unsportsmanlike-Like Conduct:

  • Foul, harsh, argumentative or abusive language or other unsportsmanlike conduct directed at race officials, USA Triathlon officials, volunteers, spectators or fellow athletes is forbidden.

Penalty: Disqualification

8. Headphones:

  • Headphones, headsets, walkmans, ipods, mp3 players, or personal audio devices, etc. are not to be carried or worn at any time during the race.

Penalty: Variable time penality

9. Race numbers:

  • All athletes are required to wear race numbers at all times during the run. Numbers must face the front and be clearly visible at all times. Numbers may not be cut or folded or altered in any way. DO NOT transfer your number to any other athlete or take a number from an athlete that is not competing.

Penalty: Variable time penality for missing or altered number, Disqualification and one year suspension from membership in USAT for transferring a number without race director permission.

10. Wetsuits:

  • Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wetsuit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wetsuit at their own discretion, provided, however that participants who wears a wetsuit within such temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Above 84 degrees, wetsuits are prohibited.

11. Abandonment:

  • All personal equipment and belongings taken out onto the course must stay on the athlete the entire time. No garbage, clothing, etc. shall be thrown on the course.
